The Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library North Berkeley Branch has found a new place to call home, thanks to a donation of a 2-acre parcel of land by Allen Henry and David Henry, president and vice president of Panhandle Homes of Berkeley County.
The Henry’s donated the land, which is directly beside City National Bank along the entrance to Spring Mills development off of W.Va. 901, during a Martinsburg Public Library Commission meeting.
Henry, who said he has been using the library since he was a boy, said the library is a “critical need in the community,” with the new development of homes and schools occurring around Spring Mills.
“We wanted to give back to the community,” Henry said. “Our community has been great to us by keeping us busy for the last 22 years.”
Commission member Steve Cox, senior vice president for commercial lending at Centra Bank, said the value of the donated land is approximately $600,000 for the 2-acre parcel. Library Commission President Mary Boyd Kearse thanked Henry, adding that “this land is very suitable for building the library. It’s wonderful (Henry) has done this for the community.
